The contrasting choice of pieces demonstrates the versalityof the trombone, some emphasizing its lyrical voice (‘flowers’) and others its more strident tone (‘thorns’).  As well as staples from the classical trombone repertoire, you will hear rarely-performed works and a couple of jazz standards. 

Le choix contrasté de pièces montre la polyvalence du trombone, certaines pièces mettant l'accent sur sa voix lyrique («fleurs») et d'autres de ses tons plus strident ( «épines») de l'instrument. De même que des morceaux connus du répertoire de trombone classique, vous entendrez des œuvres rarement exécutées et aussi quelques standards de jazz.

The deep and warm timbre of the viola and cello are not often heard without the shrill tone of the violin on top. This concert provides the opportunity for listeners to indulge in the world of the lower strings while the sound is enriched by the expansive variety of tones created by the piano. The players collaborate in every possible combination and join forces to tackle Brahms' beautiful and bold Clarinet Trio transcribed for viola.

Les timbres profonds et chaleureux de l’alto et du violoncelle sont rarement entendus sans la stridente sonorité du violon par dessus. Ce concert vous donne l’opportunité de se faire plaisir par le monde des cordes graves, enrichi par la variété de sonorités crée par le piano. Les musiciens se collaborent dans chaque combinaison possible et s’unissent pour vous présenter le magnifique et audacieux trio pour clarinette de Brahms, transcrit pour l’alto.

Dans un voyage à l'aube du Belcanto italien, vous entendrez une musique intime qui élève l'âme et dépeint les couleurs d'une magnifique poésie. Tantôt louant les ravissements de l'amour, tantôt ses tourments, les deux voix s'élèveront, seules ou entremêlées, au son du clavecin et du théorbe avec la musique des compositeurs tels que Monteverdi, Caccini et Sances.

In 16^th and 17^th century Italy, the dawn of the Bel Canto era, vocal music was considered the perfect way to depict the colours and drama of beautiful poetry. In this programme, you’ll hear two voices singing about the pain and joy of love, accompanied by harpsichord and theorbo, in pieces by Monteverdi, Caccini, Sances, and more.
