April 6th, 2013 : From the People For the People.
A country’s folklore and folk music is the lifeblood of its
traditions: this is their music, their voice. Witnessing the importance of these
folk traditions is a moving experience no matter your cultural background
because it connects us to our own humanity.
Folk music truly is music from the people for the people.
In a global celebration of local music, internationally acclaimed musicians will
gather to share a variety of compositions by Eastern European composers who were proudly influenced by their culture’s folk music traditions. Featuring works by Bartók, Janacek, Dvorak and Wieniawski and folklore from Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, and Romania, cultures will unite, languages will be shared,
stories will be told, and music will be celebrated.
