Concert Review
Many thanks to Elinor Frey for sharing the unique and
expressive voice of her cello with us at yesterday’s L’Oasis Musicale concert. Elinor’s
concert was elegantly framed by two of Bach’s most celebrated works: the Suite
in G and the Ciaccona from the Partita in D minor, originally written for
violin, but which Elinor played with great skill and passion on her 5-stringed Beaulieu
cello. In between were a delightful group of pieces by Italian cello-composers
of the 17th century. Throughout, Elinor played with a lightness of
touch, beautiful phrasing and flawless intonation and held the audience in
hushed appreciation. Elinor will also be appearing at the Salle Bourgie’s
Baroque Matinees series on Thursday 19th September at 11am.
